I view KM through a practical lens: its ability to create value in an organization. To me, KM is fundamentally about creating value from knowledge.
KM is a business discipline. It includes concepts, requires strategy, and depends on implementing practices that work in the real world. KM is always about continuous performance improvement—applying knowledge in context, solving business and operational challenges, and developing better solutions through connection, collection, and collaboration. Theory is nice, but when it comes to anything operational, the practical is the focus.
The Knowledge Edge series, which I began in 2009, is a collection of short, focused vignettes that reflect my evolving perspective on KM. As I continue to learn through the practical application of KM with clients, I will continue to add to and refine these perspectives over time. I provide this as a source of perspective only.
The Knowledge Edge series includes:
- Understanding KM
- Moving KM from Concept to Strategy to Practice
